I continue to be shocked by the brazen and destructive behavior of our President. For heaven’s sake, he just eliminated the boards at our military academies! He named himself the head of the Kennedy Center and is issuing executive orders by the hundreds. Doesn’t this unchecked power by one branch of the government concern you? It is not hyperbole to describe this as dictatorial. I call upon you as senators and representatives to stand up to his unlawful behavior. You took an oath which I am sure you took with all of the seriousness it commanded. Please protect our democracy and follow the duties defined for you in the Constitution. These executive orders must not be allowed to change the law-making powers that you possess and have them be snatched away by the President. Furthermore, he has given unelected people namely Elon Musk and his teenage hackers access to our nation’s and citizens’ most private and valuable information. How is it that this billionaire with his own motives is able to shut down entire departments and eliminate their funding? The NIH which has led serious research into cures for devastating diseases like cancer was his latest hit job. And now, President Trump has declared that Congress and average US citizens do not have a right to see what DOGE (i.e. Musk) is doing. He fired the US archivist and has listed Musk’s records as exempt due to them being Presidential records ( which they are not). Of course, we knew that when Musk would not permit members of Congress from entering the US Treasury and other federal departments last week. Does that create a pinprick of concern within you? The thing that is foremost in my mind is the dissolution of the Department of Education suggested in HR 899. The Department of Education is vital to our present and our future. This department is needed for an educated populace. And the Department of Education protects our students who are the most vulnerable like my daughter who has an 504 plan to help her be more successful in school. Although you may have guessed that I am a registered Democrat, I always considered my Congressmen and Senators honorable men who would defend what is right and pledge allegiance to the Constitution, not one megalomaniac and his hired hands. The whole world is worried about our democracy and so am I. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I have a feeling that you are receiving many similar to it.
