Demand Congressional Action on Presidential Fitness Concerns

To: Sen. Coons, Rep. McBride, Sen. Blunt Rochester

From: A constituent in Claymont, DE

January 20

I am writing to urge you to take immediate action regarding President Trump's recent letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre about Greenland. This correspondence raises serious questions about presidential fitness and demands Congressional oversight. The letter contains demonstrably false claims that undermine American credibility, including assertions that no written documents establish Danish sovereignty over Greenland despite centuries of documented Danish control and multiple treaties signed by the United States. Most concerning, Trump uses a personal grievance about the Nobel Peace Prize as justification for threatening territorial aggression, apparently unaware that the Norwegian Nobel Committee, not the government, makes this determination. He declares that "The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland" based on this perceived slight. This letter demonstrates a disconnect from factual reality that poses risks to national security and international relations. When a president conflates countries, invents historical facts, and threatens allies based on personal grievances about awards, Congress must exercise its constitutional oversight responsibilities. I urge you to publicly address these fitness concerns and work with colleagues to establish appropriate checks on presidential conduct that threatens American interests and alliances. Our democratic institutions depend on Congressional willingness to act when presidential behavior crosses clear lines of acceptability.
