The failure to secure a ceasefire and enact an arms embargo on Israel has allowed the devastating violence and loss of civilian lives in Gaza to continue unabated. Ongoing military action perpetuates a vicious cycle of escalating conflict and human suffering. As a matter of moral urgency, the U.S. government must act decisively to stop arming one side, create circumstances for a durable ceasefire, and pursue a negotiated resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The deplorable status quo serves no one's interests except by fueling instability, extremism, and human rights violations in the region. Pragmatic diplomacy aimed at demilitarization and facilitating equitable peace negotiations is the only path forward.
