Oppose Section 224 of the FY2027 National Defense Authorization Act
I am writing as a constituent to urge you to oppose Section 224 of the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act.
Regardless of one’s views on Israel or any other ally, the United States must remain fully sovereign in the command, control, and deployment of its armed forces. Any provision that moves America toward deeper military integration with a foreign nation raises serious concerns regarding constitutional accountability, congressional oversight, and the independence of U.S. military decision-making.
The men and women of our Armed Forces take an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States. Decisions regarding military operations, force posture, intelligence sharing, strategic planning, and the commitment of American resources must remain under the exclusive authority of the United States government and accountable to the American people through their elected representatives.
Our alliances should strengthen cooperation without blurring lines of command or creating arrangements that could diminish America’s ability to independently determine when, where, and how our military is employed. Congress should be particularly cautious of any language that could be interpreted as creating obligations, structures, or precedents that bind U.S. military interests too closely to those of any foreign government.
I support strong diplomatic relations and mutually beneficial partnerships with allies. However, cooperation must never come at the expense of American sovereignty or congressional authority over matters of war and national defense.
For these reasons, I respectfully urge you to oppose Section 224 and any similar provisions that could undermine the independent control of the United States Armed Forces.
Thank you for your service and for representing the interests of your constituents.
