Defend the Rule of Law and the Integrity of the Department of Justice

To: Sen. Murkowski, Rep. Begich, Sen. Sullivan

From: A verified voter in Anchorage, AK

February 14

I am writing as your constituent to express deep concern about the direction of the Department of Justice under Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, and their deputies Todd Blanche and Emil Bove. The DOJ exists to uphold the rule of law and protect the American people. It must never become a tool for shielding political allies or targeting perceived enemies. Recent actions raise serious alarms. The federal arrest of journalists Don Lemon, Trahern Jeen Crews, Georgia Fort, and Jamael Lydell Lundy for covering a protest, after a magistrate judge had rejected the case, threatens core First Amendment protections. Criminal investigations into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and Governor Lisa Cook appear to follow political pressure over interest rates rather than evidence of wrongdoing. The DOJ has reportedly dropped charges against former NYC mayor Eric Adams and co defendants in the classified documents case, fired ethics officials and prosecutors tied to January 6 cases and Special Counsel Jack Smith, and opened investigations into former CIA Director John Brennan and New York Attorney General Letitia James. The raid of John Bolton and the dismissal of whistleblowers who raised concerns about defying court orders further erode public trust. The forced removal of career prosecutor Erik Siebert and the attempted appointment of Trump’s personal attorney Lindsey Halligan as U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, followed by a swiftly dismissed indictment of former FBI Director James Comey, deepens the appearance of politicization. No president is above the law. Congress has a constitutional obligation to conduct oversight and protect the independence of federal law enforcement. I urge you to use your authority to demand transparency, hold hearings, and ensure the Department of Justice serves the American people rather than any one individual. Our democracy depends on it.
