An Open Letter

To: Pres. Trump

From: A constituent in Los Angeles, CA

February 6

You are entrusted with something more valuable than all the money in the world. You hold the lives of millions of us in your hands. I’m asking for your humility, which I understand is difficult given the power you hold. Sir, you are an American. Although you and I don’t have much in common, we do have that. I trust that you love your country as much as I do. Please allow me to speak with you as a fellow American. We grew up believing that America is number one. Not because we were taught it in books, but because we saw it with our own eyes. We saw the military power of our volunteer soldiers, the humanity of our civic leaders, the pride we had for the democratic system. Sir, I’m concerned that many of the reasons why I love this country are being cut by your executive orders. The fierce individualism, the heart of our social outreaching, the promise we have made to our elders and veterans that we will always stand with them. Sir, please take a breath and look at what is at stake. America is not a business than can simply go bankrupt if it doesn’t work out. Millions of hearts are behind your pen, please don’t use it as a weapon against us.
