I am writing regarding a series of developments that pose significant risks to U.S. national security, economic stability, and the integrity of our democratic institutions. Recent actions by Donald Trump and a cohort of influential billionaires-including Elon Musk-demand immediate congressional attention and oversight. These activities raise grave concerns about conflicts of interest, foreign influence, potential bribery, and the security of sensitive U.S. information. Trump has helped broker or secure over $243 billion in deals with Qatar, including a $96 billion Boeing aircraft order and GE Aerospace engine sales to Qatar Airways. The Trump Organization, in partnership with Qatari Diar and Dar Global, is launching the Trump International Golf Course and Trump Villas in Simaisma, north of Doha—a $5.5 billion luxury development. Qatar is investing in U.S. quantum technology and advanced military equipment, including Raytheon counter-drone systems and General Atomics drones. Qatar has offered Trump a customized Boeing 747, currently being outfitted in Texas. U.S. intelligence officials warn this may not meet security standards and can be seen as an inappropriate gift. Trump’s deals rely on licensing, branding, and partnerships with state-backed entities, raising questions about foreign influence and compliance with U.S. ethics laws. Trump and his family are expanding into cryptocurrency and luxury real estate in the Gulf, potentially moving wealth outside U.S. regulatory oversight. Trump’s refusal to divest from his businesses or place assets in a blind trust continues to raise concerns about conflicts of interest and susceptibility to foreign leverage, including Russia. The risk of classified or sensitive U.S. information being exposed or leveraged by foreign governments increases if former leaders and billionaires relocate or align with adversarial interests. These and related developments represent a clear and present danger to U.S. national security, economic sovereignty, and the rule of law. I urge Congress to: Launch a bipartisan investigation into Trump’s business dealings in Qatar and other foreign jurisdictions. Review and strengthen laws governing foreign gifts, business interests, and post-presidency conduct. Increase oversight on capital flight, cryptocurrency transactions, and foreign investments by U.S. political leaders and billionaires. Safeguard classified information and ensure that former officials are held accountable for any breaches. America’s security, prosperity, and global standing depend on decisive action.
