I'm reaching out to you about HB 3399. This bill is very poorly thought out, extremely dangerous, and frankly a prime example of needless government overreach. Regardless of the bill's intent, there are just too many risks and too little benefit. What is the threshold of evidence required for a doctor to 'knowingly' perform medical gender-affirming care? How can we be certain this bill won't have negative impacts on the listed 'gender reassignment' procedures even if the procedures are intended for other reasons? Banning vasectomies, of all things? And masectomies? I'm very concerned that it would be trivially easy for a vengeful ex-partner or other malicious party to intentionally sabotage someone's health simply by telling their physician that the patient might be transgender. In addition, what is the state's authority for gatekeeping a person's fertility in this way? Isn't this just encouraging transgender people to have kids? Why?
This bill is absolutely ridiculous, it's a threat to all Texans whether intended to be or not, and I'm calling The you to vote against HB 3399 should it come up for vote.
Thank you for your time understanding my concerns, and thank you to your staff for the hard work they do. Please take care of yourselves and keep up the hard work.
