Introduce secure digital driver's licenses in Nebraska

To: Gov. Pillen, Sen. Cavanaugh

From: A verified voter in Omaha, NE

October 23, 2024

Iowans now have the ability to securely add their driver's licenses and state IDs to the Apple Wallet app on iPhones and Apple Watches. This digital ID option allows citizens to conveniently present identification at TSA checkpoints, businesses, and venues across the state through a secure and encrypted process. Additionally, iOS apps like Tap2iD Mobile, VeriScan, and Mobile ID Verify facilitate age verification using the digital IDs. The Iowa DOT's move embraces modern technology to enhance accessibility while maintaining stringent privacy standards. Implementing a similar digital driver's license program in Nebraska would provide comparable benefits of increased convenience and security for citizens. I urge you to explore introducing digital driver's licenses as Iowa has done to better serve Nebraskans in today's mobile era while upholding robust data protections.
