Investigate Elon Musk's Use of Federal Power to Target Mary Comans

October 15

Investigate Elon Musk's abuse of his position as de facto leader of the DOGE Office to target a federal employee with false accusations. Federal Magistrate Judge William Fitzpatrick found that Musk's February 11, 2025, post on X, which falsely labeled career FEMA official Mary Comans' government service a "criminal action," was "clearly intended to make her afraid" and "served no legitimate governmental interest." This was not a policy dispute. Fitzpatrick's ruling states that federal officials at DHS and FEMA knew the accusations against Comans were false when they were made. She had no authority to stop the grants in question, and others had decided to continue that funding. A separate federal judge already ruled in July that her firing was unlawful. Fitzpatrick put it plainly: Comans was "professionally targeted and personally attacked by government officials for no legitimate reason." A man wielding the power of the federal government to publicly smear a career public servant with lies is not acceptable. I expect a full investigation into how Musk and others used official channels to intimidate and destroy the reputation of someone with, in the court's own words, "an impeccable record of public service."
