A decade and more of assault against America and its people by Donald Trump. Years of drip drip drip, and sometimes a torrent, of trying to do away with the very tenets of what makes America actually great.
Our Constitution. Our Republic, guided by the will of the people. Our system of laws, where every person is guaranteed equal treatment. Our basic civil society.
Now the chickens are finally coming home to roost.
We read reports that the GOP only needs to throw money at public opinion to ensure a political win in November. That all it will take is the right kind of attack ad, beat into our collective heads. Just the right divisive language used against each other will win the day. Or even more crass, checks sent to citizen voters with the certainty that that is all it will take to buy political loyalty in the voting booth. Paid off with our own money.
Wrong. Wrong on all metrics. Just wrong.
We are angry. But we the people are not just angry about higher prices. (Making deals with Russia over diesel is not going to do much regardless, except for them.) And we certainly aren’t going to decide the GOP has suddenly done a fabulous job because we might be paying a few cents less to fill up our tanks. Because we know why prices across the board are so high in the first place.
We are not stupid.
We are sick of the reality show we’re being forced to live in with the Trump administration. We are sick of being twisted against each other so one political party can stay in power. We are sick of brutality. Of deviousness. Of corruption. Of manipulation in every aspect of our society.
We’re sick of having our personal freedoms and civil rights being considered optional by the Trump administration. We’re sick of watching our friends, neighbors, relatives being hauled off and sent who knows where.
We’re sick of misinformation. Of lies. Of not being able to trust anything that comes out of the Oval Office.
We’re sick of the barbarism.
And we’re absolutely sick of the complete and absolute incompetence at the root of it all.
So when we read headlines that assure us that getting gas prices down, or a deluge of more ad spending, or trying to run away from their own Trump baggage is going to change the political fortunes of the GOP and/or turn the tide of a potential blue wave next month…dream on.
We want the whole lot gone. We want America back.
