Cancel The Arch Proposal
To: Pres. Trump
From: A constituent in Greenfield, MA
July 28
As a citizen who deeply respects America's traditions, limited government, and fiscal responsibility, I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed Triumphal Arch at Memorial Circle.
True conservatism has always championed fiscal restraint, respect for established law, and the preservation of our nation's historic heritage over federal overreach and vanity projects. Bypassing historic preservation laws, ignoring local building height limits, and forcing through an ostentatious 250-foot monument run counter to those core principles.
Furthermore, placing a massive structure at the gateway of Arlington National Cemetery risks disturbing the solemn dignity owed to our military veterans and their families. Hallowed ground should remain a place of quiet reflection and sacrifice, not a canvas for grandiose architecture that dwarfs the historic vistas connecting the Lincoln Memorial to Arlington House.
At a time when the public looks to leaders to cut wasteful spending and honor traditional American values, committing resources to an imperial-style project is the wrong path forward. I urge you to listen to the public backlash, respect the historical integrity of our capital’s landscape, and scrap this proposal.
