As your constituent, I urge you to oppose SB220 and AB238, which would create the largest tax credit in Nevada’s history—up to $190 million—for the film industry.
At a time when our schools are overcrowded, teachers are underpaid, and basic services remain underfunded, it is unconscionable to offer such a massive corporate giveaway with no guaranteed return on investment. We are still recovering from budget cuts that devastated public education and essential services. Now is not the time to prioritize Hollywood over Nevada’s hardworking families.
These bills promise economic development, but experience from other states shows that film tax credits rarely deliver long-term benefits. They often result in short-term jobs for out-of-state workers, not sustainable employment or infrastructure growth for Nevadans. Worse, these credits would siphon funding away from more pressing needs—especially public education.
We need bold investments in schools, healthcare, housing, and infrastructure—not sweetheart deals for an industry that can pack up and leave when the credits run dry.
Please reject SB220 and AB238. Stand up for responsible budgeting and for the people who call Nevada home.
