ICE Enforcement Reforms & Investigations on the Murder of Renee Good

I am writing as a constituent to express serious concern about the current enforcement tactics used by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the harm these practices are causing to undocumented individuals, lawful residents, and American citizens alike. I fully recognize the federal government’s authority and responsibility to enforce immigration law. However, enforcement must be conducted in a manner that respects constitutional protections, due process, and basic human dignity. Increasingly, ICE operations appear to rely on tactics that generate fear, confusion, and collateral harm far beyond their stated goals. Reports of individuals being questioned or detained without clear identification, targeted based on appearance or language, or subjected to aggressive enforcement actions in workplaces and public spaces are deeply troubling. These practices erode public trust, discourage cooperation with law enforcement, and place U.S. citizens and lawful residents at risk of wrongful detention or intimidation. The broader impact on families and communities is equally concerning. Children—many of whom are U.S. citizens—experience trauma when parents or caregivers are abruptly detained. Employers, schools, and local institutions are left to manage the fallout from sudden enforcement actions that destabilize communities rather than enhance public safety. I strongly urge you to exercise strong oversight of ICE and to support policies that ensure transparency, accountability, and respect for civil liberties in all enforcement actions. Immigration enforcement should clearly identify officers, protect constitutional rights, emphasize due process, and prioritize genuine public safety concerns over broad tactics that sow fear. Our nation can uphold the rule of law while also honoring its longstanding commitment to individual rights and human dignity. These principles are not mutually exclusive, and our immigration policies should reflect both. Investigations need to happen in the murder of Renee Nicole Good who is a mother of 3 children who now no longer have a mother and one child who is now orphaned. As a woman, mother, and American myself, I can imagine that Renee Good was terrified having multiple men with guns aggressively trying to get into her car, threatening her with a gun, and then shooting her in the face 3 times. It looks like this mother was trying to get out of this scary situation. How heinous and heartbreaking this entire incident was. Murder was not an appropriate action- no matter what lies and/or truths are being shared about this mother and U. S. citizen. I sincerely and genuinely hope you will take all of f these concerns very seriously and work toward reforms that protect both our laws and the people who live under them.
