I am writing as a constituent who is outraged and alarmed by Donald Trump’s push to nationalize elections. This is an authoritarian power grab, plain and simple, and it strikes at the core of our constitutional system.
The administration of elections has always been a responsibility of the states, deliberately so. Centralizing that power under the federal executive is not “reform”—it is an attempt to control outcomes, intimidate voters, and undermine democratic accountability. History is very clear about where this road leads.
I expect Congress to act as a coequal branch of government, not a bystander and not an accomplice. That means using every tool available—legislation, oversight, public opposition, and if necessary, outright obstruction—to ensure that election administration remains decentralized, transparent, and protected from executive interference.
This is not a moment for hedging, triangulating, or issuing vague statements about “concerns.” This is a moment that demands courage. Grow a backbone. Stand up to this attack on democratic norms and make it unmistakably clear that Congress will not allow elections in this country to be nationalized or weaponized.
Your oath is to the Constitution, not to Donald Trump, not to party leadership, and not to political convenience. I am watching closely, and so are millions of voters who expect you to defend free and fair elections without apology.
History will remember what you did at this moment. Act accordingly.
