Enough Excuses — It’s Time for Healthcare for Every American

To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Carter

From: A constituent in Leander, TX

How much longer will you sit back and let Americans go bankrupt just for getting sick? How many more people have to die because they couldn’t afford an ambulance ride, a hospital stay, or life-saving medication? Every modern nation on Earth has figured out how to provide healthcare to its citizens without sending them into financial ruin. Why not America? Let’s be clear — this is not a matter of capability, it’s a matter of will. The United Kingdom has had the National Health Service since 1948. It provides care to everyone — free at the point of service. Canada’s universal healthcare system covers all citizens, with zero out-of-pocket costs for doctor visits or hospital stays. France and Germany both operate public systems that guarantee access and affordability while still allowing private options. Japan covers 100% of its citizens. Even tiny Estonia has universal healthcare! And yet, here in the richest nation on the planet, millions of Americans are uninsured or underinsured. We have people skipping chemotherapy because they can’t pay. Parents are splitting pills to stretch prescriptions. Seniors are choosing between insulin and groceries. This is a national disgrace. Our system doesn’t just fail morally — it fails economically. The United States spends nearly twice as much per capita on healthcare as any other developed nation, yet our outcomes are worse. We have higher infant mortality, lower life expectancy, and skyrocketing medical debt. The so-called “free market” in healthcare has created billion-dollar profits for insurance companies and Big Pharma, while working families drown in bills they can never pay off. You were elected to serve the people — not the insurance lobby, not the pharmaceutical giants, not the corporate donors who profit from our pain. Healthcare is not a privilege for the wealthy or the well-connected. It is a human right. We demand Medicare for All — a comprehensive, universal system that ensures every American has access to medical care, mental health support, dental, vision, and prescription coverage. No co-pays, no deductibles, no exclusions. Just care. Stop pretending it’s impossible. Stop hiding behind excuses about cost. Every other advanced country does it — and they do it better, fairer, and cheaper than we do. The only thing missing here is courage. So I ask you: Whose side are you on — the people, or the profiteers? History will remember what you do next. Be on the right side of it. Pass healthcare for all. Now.
