Stop Censorship by Payment Processors

To: Rep. Matsui, Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff

From: A constituent in West Sacramento, CA

October 11, 2025

Big payment processors and credit card companies, like Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, and PayPal, have recently been putting pressure on digital storefronts like Itch.io and Steam in order to force them to remove products that contain LEGAL adult content or certain themes that these companies personally feel is "risky for their brand." These payment processors have a long history of targeting otherwise perfectly legal adult content and denying their services, or in some cases even outright stealing their money as has been the case with PayPal. It isn't right that these payment processors should have any say in what kind of LEGAL content I can purchase with my own money. They are imposing their own values on thousands or even millions of businesses in a way that is antithetical to the concept of freedom of speech and the pursuit of happiness. Please look into this issue further and help the American people affected by these puritanical businesses.
