Repeal A.B. 1043

To: Asm. Avila Farias, Sen. Grayson, Gov. Newsom

From: A constituent in Pleasant Hill, CA

March 25

I urge the repeal of A.B. 1043. The responsibility for safeguarding children from objectionable content must lie primarily with the children's parents and secondarily from the purveyors of that content. The ill-advised law shifts the responsibility from both of those parties and requires invasive monitoring in the routine use of privately owned devices. But more importantly, A.B. 1043 will deliver more power into the hands of the same kind of tech giants that unethically collaborated with the Trump administration during the DOGE fiasco. California cannot afford to falter on the issue of privacy from mass surveillance when the stakes are so high, and I hope our state will reverse course on this shameful law before it takes effect.
