I believe it is a moral, ethical, and legal obligation of the United States to fully support Ukraine. Russia instigated this war by violating Ukraine's sovereign borders. Russia attacks and kills Ukrainian civilians, destroying non military targets. We, along with our NATO allies, have committed to the support of Ukraine and the defense of democracy. To hear Pete Hegseth, woefully unqualified Secretary of Defense, say that it is 'unrealistic' to return all Ukrainian territory is abhorrent. It serves Putin's agenda. Who did the Secretary of Defense consult when making this assessment? We want them to come forward. The public deserves to know who will not stand in defense of democracy. No one I know who loves democracy is willing to see Russia, breaker of international law, wrest territory, not even an acre, from a sovereign nation. I call on you to STOP this abomination! America must keep its promises! To fail to support Ukraine is to spurn democracy. It is tantamount to turning our backs on allies to hand victory to an enemy. I am counting on you to ensure our promises are kept. I am counting on you to denounce Hegseth's words as complicit with Putin's aggression. I am counting on you to defend Ukraine's democracy and our own.
