As your constituent, I’m writing to ask you to investigate Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons. I’m deeply troubled by what I’ve been reading about his leadership. Mr. Lyons wrote a secret memo allowing ICE agents to enter people’s homes without a warrant from a judge. Legal experts say this violates our Fourth Amendment rights. That’s not how America is supposed to work. When he testified before Congress last week, he refused to apologize for the deaths of two Americans—Renee Good and Alex Pretti—who were killed by immigration officers. He didn’t even mention them in his testimony. These were U.S. citizens. Representative Goldman also caught him lying to Congress about assault statistics, inflating the numbers by over 1,000% to justify ICE’s aggressive tactics. I believe in enforcing our immigration laws, but not like this. We can’t throw out the Constitution and basic accountability in the process. Please investigate Mr. Lyons’ conduct and push for reforms that require ICE to get proper warrants and use body cameras. Our laws and our values matter. I’d appreciate hearing back about what you plan to do.
