Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to Stop Presidential Overreach on Elections

To: Rep. McClintock, Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla

From: A constituent in El Dorado Hills, CA

March 31

I need you to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act immediately to stop the president's unconstitutional attacks on our election system. Trump's new executive order directing federal agencies to control mail-in voting violates the Constitution. As election law expert David Becker stated, the order is "unconstitutional on its face" because "the Constitution clearly gives the president no power over elections." States run elections, not the president. This order attempts to create federal voter lists, control what the Postal Service delivers, and threaten states with funding cuts if they don't comply. That's federal overreach, plain and simple. The president keeps claiming mail-in voting fraud exists, yet he and his supporters have filed lawsuit after lawsuit without finding evidence. Election officials across the country, including Republicans, confirm mail-in voting is secure. Trump himself votes by mail. His baseless attacks are designed to make Americans distrust a voting process they can observe and verify at every step. Congress has the constitutional authority to set national election standards. Use it. Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to protect voting rights and end this cycle of misinformation that undermines confidence in our democracy.
