Block The Bombs
To: Rep. Magaziner, Sen. Whitehouse, Sen. Reed
From: A constituent in Cranston, RI
July 30
I no longer appeal to your humanity, sense of conscience or duty. It has been almost two years of incessant writing, calling, protesting, educating, and grieving. For some, that process has been repeated over the course of 76 years. While what we are seeing done to the Palestinians by Israel may not be new historically speaking, the shift in this country is radical and fast moving. We are finally waking up. I am not writing to plead with you. I am writing to put you on notice. We are watching children starve to death from a man made famine. We are reading testimony from doctors who are witnessing parents feeding their children rotting garbage in the street after a shift where they were unable to treat their malnourished, bombed, shot, burned, and tortured patients because they have no medicine. A shift during which they themselves have not eaten. Soldiers hired as mercenaries are breaking their code of silence to shed light on the failing aid distribution sites run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation; yet another example of a failed U.S. backed aid system. We are shooting people who are desperately searching for food. You have had two years to put your name on as much legislation as possible to stop weapons being sent to Israel. Two years to condemn ethnic cleansing, confront your donors, and work through the layers of political propaganda that has been spoon fed to the citizens of the United States for decades. You have had time to do something. Yet we are still watching. The Nazis knew to hide their brutality. Israel is blatantly showcasing its complete disregard for human life, international law, and contempt for consequence. All while the United States has been providing political cover for them. You are aware of how much money, weapons, and aid we send to this genocidal country. This is easily accessible information. We are funding a holocaust. The United States has lost its moral standing, not just within the international community but within its own borders. We the people see our representatives for who they are: politicians keen on hoarding their money and power, no matter the cost. We will not be silent and we will not look away. We are taking notes; when you spoke up, how you fought for the end of a genocide, and especially where your money comes from. Tweets and Instagram posts are not enough. Is your name on legislation supporting an arms embargo? Are you supporting H.R. 3565 - the Block The Bombs act? Are you listening to us? Because we are listening to you. Have you done enough? I suppose we will find out. See you at the polls.
