An Open Letter
To: Rep. Davids
From: A verified voter in Gardner, KS
March 3
I am writing to you as your constituent from Gardner, Kansas to demand immediate action: invoke the War Powers Resolution of 1973 and withdraw congressional authorization for the ongoing military operations in Iran.
This conflict is illegal. The Constitution vests the power to declare war in Congress — not the Executive Branch. No authorization for the use of military force against Iran has been passed by this body. Every day our troops remain in harm's way without that authorization is a day this administration operates outside the law.
American service members are not political pawns. The justifications for this conflict have shifted repeatedly, the strategic objectives remain undefined, and the human cost is being paid by our military families. This has the hallmarks of a manufactured distraction, not a coherent national security strategy.
The consequences extend far beyond Iran. Regional destabilization, rising casualties, and the erosion of congressional war powers are all on the table. History will judge this Congress by whether it stood up or stepped aside.
I am asking you to:
1. Co-sponsor or introduce a War Powers Resolution requiring the withdrawal of U.S. forces within 60 days absent explicit congressional authorization.
2. Publicly call for an immediate congressional debate and vote on any continued military engagement.
3. Use every procedural tool available to you to hold this administration accountable.
You were elected to be a check on executive overreach. Now is the time to act like it.
