An Open Letter

To: Sen. Marshall, Rep. Schmidt, Sen. Moran

From: A constituent in Pittsburg, KS

February 3

I am writing to express my deep concern about ongoing violations of federal cybersecurity laws, including the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA) and NIST guidelines, as well as the unauthorized use of external devices in federal systems. These breaches put the personal data of millions of Americans at risk and undermine national security. I urge you to investigate these violations and take immediate action to ensure compliance with cybersecurity regulations. Bypassing cybersecurity protocols violates federal law, including: • FISMA (Federal Information Security Modernization Act): Mandates that federal agencies implement robust security measures to protect government systems. • The Privacy Act of 1974: Regulates the collection, use, and sharing of personal data by federal agencies to safeguard individuals’ privacy. Federal systems manage trillions of dollars and hold sensitive personal information. The consequences of inadequate security measures could be catastrophic. It is imperative that those responsible for these violations are held accountable and that stronger safeguards are enforced. As a concerned citizen, I urge you to take this matter seriously and act in the best interest of the American people. I appreciate your attention to this critical issue.
