Defend Privacy: People over profits! Dear servant of God’s children: I write to urge you to defend the sacred dignity of every human being by restraining the unchecked corporate profiteering that harvests our private lives. As technologist Benn Jordan recently testified before the Senate, the mass proliferation of privatized surveillance networks represents a critical failure of public governance.  Jordan exposed the glaring regulatory double standard governing surveillance capital: "I cannot legally open a restaurant or a barbershop without a health inspector and a fire marshal making sure that it's safe for people to enter; yet there is not a single city or police department in this country that requires this from a third-party company tracking their citizens". Flock Safety is merely "a canary in the coal mine". As Jordan emphasized, corporate giants like Axon and Motorola are "actively rolling out the same reckless features," trading innocent citizens' data with law enforcement without independent security vetting or constitutional safeguards. Passing bills with broad corporate mandates like the Combating Organized Retail Crime Act or expanding FISA Section 702 recklessly reduces civilian security posture to retail standards. As Jordan warned, expanding these measures is "the equivalent of feeding a monster in an attempt to defeat it". Instead, Congress must seize this moment to enact "clear, effective, and unified federal privacy laws on par with the GDPR," legally recognizing automated license plate reader (ALPR) captures and location logs as protected personal data. Every human person bears the divine image of God, endowed with inalienable dignity that cannot be converted into a commodified surveillance product. When corporate monopolies monetize our daily movements, it is always the weak, the targeted, and the vulnerable who pay the steepest price. We must place people over profits. Please establish comprehensive federal privacy guardrails now.
