I am writing in response to the killing of Renee Good on January 7, 2026 in Minnesota during an encounter involving an ICE agent. This is not a matter of partisan politics. It is a matter of human life, accountability, and the rule of law.
Video footage from multiple angles circulating publicly shows a woman attempting to leave when she was fatally shot. If these recordings accurately reflect what occurred—as they appear to—this represents a grave and unjustifiable use of lethal force by a federal law enforcement officer. No agency, including ICE, is above the law. No badge grants the authority to execute a civilian.
I am deeply disturbed by attempts by public officials to preemptively dismiss or distort what is plainly visible on video. Propaganda, spin, or reflexive defense of federal agents has no place when a woman is dead and the public deserves truth. Law enforcement accountability is not “anti-police.” It is pro-democracy.
I am calling on you, as my elected representative, to do the following immediately:
1. Demand an independent, transparent investigation into the killing of Renee Good, including the public release of all body-camera footage, dispatch records, and use-of-force reports.
2. Support the immediate suspension of the involved agent pending the outcome of that investigation.
3. Publicly affirm that ICE agents are subject to the same legal standards as all other law enforcement officers, including criminal liability where appropriate.
4. Oppose any effort by the executive branch or DHS leadership to interfere with or prematurely frame the facts of this case.
This is about whether we are a nation governed by laws or by unchecked power. If a federal agent can kill a woman in broad daylight, on camera, and face no consequences, then constitutional protections are meaningless.
I expect my representatives to stand for justice, due process, and human dignity—especially when doing so is politically inconvenient. I will be watching closely to see whether you choose courage or silence.
