The Federal Reserve operates independently from the executive branch to ensure its ability to make monetary policy decisions free from political influence or pressure. While the President nominates Fed governors, they serve fixed, staggered terms to insulate them from the political cycle. This central bank independence is crucial for fostering economic stability and public confidence. Given the Fed's non-partisan, technical role, calls for removing its leadership for political reasons are misguided and risk undermining a key pillar of the nation's economic framework built up over decades. Attempts by the President to undermine this independence represent an overreach of executive authority and a move toward authoritarian control that Congress should act to curb. Instead of attacking the Fed, efforts should focus on substantive policy discussions to promote maximum employment and price stability within the boundaries of the law.
