The recent raid by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in San Diego raises concerning questions.
Why were the “officers” hiding their identities and showing no badges or other identifying details? All other law enforcement officers display their names and badge numbers. Were they truly ICE officers? Hired contractors? Volunteer militia?
Why were they using stun grenades against unarmed civilians?
Why were they dressed in full-tactical gear and carrying assault rifles to arrest dishwashers with no criminal records?
Why were two of the workers— documented students in the country legally—seized at all?
Why will neither Homeland Security nor ICE reveal the detainees’ locations? Why were the detainees not given their legally-required due process to prove their immigration status?
First-hand accounts paint a picture of warrantless kidnappings, then brown-shirted “officers” attempting to terrorize bystanders.
My wife and I urge you to demand transparency in these ICE abductions. Demand the officers be identifiable. Demand they use force in proportion to the alleged offenses. Demand they afford all their detainees due process, as required by law.
