Prioritizing Domestic Stability: Over Military Expansion

To: Sen. Reed, Rep. Magaziner, Sen. Whitehouse

From: A constituent in Warwick, RI

April 3

I am writing to express my urgent opposition to the current budgetary priorities being advanced by the House Budget Committee and the administration. Specifically, I am calling for the immediate reappropriation of funds to critical federal departments recently gutted under Elon Musk's direction and the Government Efficiency Commission, as well as the full reinstatement of Medicaid funding. The "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" (OBBBA) and proposed cuts to ACA cost-sharing reductions have created a domestic crisis. With over $1 trillion stripped from Medicaid and millions of Americans losing their health coverage, our citizens are no longer safe at home. High premiums and the closure of health facilities are forcing families to choose between healthcare and essentials. It is unacceptable to allocate billions toward an unjustified military conflict in Iran, initiated without clear provocation, while our own people suffer. We must prioritize the safety and security of Americans by ensuring they have access to life-saving medical care before funding further foreign military conflicts that enmesh our soldiers and people into fights without reason or plan. To address the deficit without compromising the health of our citizens, I propose the following: 1 Rebuild Federal Capacity: Reinvest in the departments downsized by recent "efficiency" mandates to ensure the government can effectively serve the public. 2 Restore Healthcare Funding: Fully fund Medicaid and cost-sharing reductions to prevent the further loss of coverage for hundreds of thousands of low-income families. 3 Increase Revenue through Enforcement: Rather than cutting services, we should raise revenue by increasing IRS staffing. Bolstering the agency’s ability to audit complex tax filings thoroughly will ensure that the wealthiest individuals and corporations pay their fair share. Simply put, true national security begins with the health and stability of the American people. I urge you to reject these harmful cuts and redirect our nation's resources toward the well-being of its citizens.
