It’s not too late—NO to DOGE spending cuts

To: Sen. Blumenthal, Sen. Murphy

From: A verified voter in Manchester, CT

July 15

I am writing as your constituent to urge you to oppose the proposed $9.4 billion in spending cuts currently under consideration in the Senate, which would eliminate funding for public media and critical foreign aid programs. As highlighted in recent news, these cuts—driven by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the Trump administration—would rescind nearly $1.1 billion from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and over $8 billion from humanitarian and global health initiatives. Public broadcasting is a vital resource for millions of Americans, especially in rural and under-served communities. Local public radio and television stations provide essential news, educational programming, and emergency information. Many stations, particularly those serving Native American and tribal communities, rely almost entirely on federal support and face closure if these funds are withdrawn. The foreign aid cuts would devastate programs that combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases, provide emergency shelter and clean water to refugees, and support economic and democratic development in strategically important countries. These initiatives are not only humanitarian but also serve U.S. interests by promoting global stability and preventing the spread of disease and conflict. I am deeply concerned that these cuts are being rushed through using a rarely used process that bypasses the usual bipartisan safeguards. This approach undermines the Senate’s tradition of cooperation and threatens programs with broad, longstanding support from both parties. I respectfully urge you to vote NO on the DOGE rescissions package. Please stand up for public media, lifesaving global health programs, and responsible, bipartisan budgeting. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
