Vote Down The Big Ugly Boondoggle!
To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt, Rep. Smith
From: A constituent in West Plains, MO

The BBB is not so “Beautiful”. Please vote it down! Under the BBB taxes will revert to pre-2018 levels. As best I can tell, most Americans will experience a tax revert of 6 to $100 a month. That’s the cost of a large fries to as much as a couple of family meals at McDonals. However, allowing that revert will save our budget deficit us about $2 trillion The elimination of many tax credits will increase rather than decrease tax liability on all Americans. Loss of EV tax credits will likely result in major job losses in the automotive industry. This “no taxes on tips” bill will hold down the wages of tipped employees to well below a livable level. By making it more difficult for people to qualify, 17 million will lose Medicaid and affordable health insurance. This will include tipped employees! 42 million will loses SNAP food assistance—many of them whom, like most tipped employees, cannot feed and house themselves on sub-standard wages. Others—like my 94 year old mother or my disabled neighbor—cannot possibly work to qualify for such assistance. These cuts will harm our farmers, too, just as cuts in foreign aid has. These loses to our agricultural sector will counter the targeted relief to farmers currently in the bill. Why not separate all of this into a separate bill that achieves a win-win for all concerned? The costs passed on to the states will only increase the state tax burden on all Americans. Eliminating or modifying SALT deductions add MORE tax burden on all Americans. Revoking tax exempt status of organizations will deprive many of their innocent, peaceful beneficiaries of their lifeline services and/or constitutionally guaranteed rights. The BBB bill places fees on remittance payments they send outside the U.S. Shall we also place proportional fees on the millionaires and billionaires who stash money in offshore accounts and investments? Release of incumbent’s and candidate’s tax returns should be mandatory for all elected officials to prevent graft and corruption from swindling all Americans out of their own hard earned taxes. And continuing to build a border wall is a monumental waste of funds when the project will clearly have next-to no impact on the problem of immigration. It’s ludicrous to think this bill will “eliminate our dependence on China for manufacturing supply chains”. We would need a Manhattan-Project-level of capital investment in manufacturing capacity to make up for our integration with them, and even then it would take many years to catch up to the status quo. What happens in the meantime? I’ll tell you what. We sink into a recession while the rest of the world moves on without us! Please vote NO on the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill”. Better to name it The Big Ugly Boondoggle!
