VOTE NO on the Disastrous "SAVE America Act"
To: Sen. Moreno, Sen. Husted
From: A verified voter in Dayton, OH
February 12
I am writing to urgently demand that you vote NO on the "SAVE America Act," which recently passed the House. This bill is a dangerous solution in search of a problem that will disenfranchise millions of legitimate American voters.
The proposed strict proof-of-citizenship requirements would create catastrophic hurdles for eligible voters:
Mass Disenfranchisement: According to the Brennan Center for Justice, 21 million American citizens do not have ready access to the required documents (like a passport or birth certificate).
Racial Impact: These barriers disproportionately harm minority communities. Research shows that 11% of voting-age citizens of color lack ready access to documentary proof of citizenship, compared to lower rates for white citizens.
Burden on Women: The bill threatens the voting rights of 69 million married women whose current legal names do not match their birth certificates. Requiring them to provide additional documentation just to cast a ballot is an undue burden on a massive demographic.
Furthermore, this bill attempts to solve a "crisis" that does not exist. Noncitizen voting is already a felony and is statistically negligible. Recent reviews confirm this:
Utah: Found only 1 potential noncitizen out of 2 million voters.
Georgia: Found only 24 noncitizens out of 8.2 million voters.
Idaho: Identified only 36 "likely" noncitizens state-wide.
Risking the rights of millions of Americans to stop a handful of illegal votes is not election security; it is voter suppression. The mandate for monthly voter roll purges will only lead to administrative chaos and the removal of eligible voters.
Do not let this bill pass the Senate. I expect you to stand up for the voting rights of all your constituents and vote NO.
