Congress needs to act to prevent ICE from further terrorizing our country. We cannot allow the actions that ICE has done to become normal. We want a federal officer identification and masked transparency act: Prohibit masks or face coverings during public facing civil immigration enforcement. Require visible identification badge number/ID number. Require verbal identification upon contact. We want a judicial warrant and due process protection act: Align immigration enforcement with basic constitutional norms. Require judicial warrant (not administrative) for home entry, arrest, or prolonged detention. Prohibit collateral arrest of people not named in the warrant unless probable cause of a serious violent felony exists. Require notice of rights and legal basis for enforcement. We want a sensitive locations and community protection act: Keep enforcement away from places essential for public life. Ban civil immigration enforcement at schools, churches, hospitals, shelters, courthouses, and polling places. Convert what used to be "guidance" into binding law.
