President Washington Warned Us — Strip the Israel Merger Buried in the NDA

July 24

Dear Senator, I am writing to demand you oppose the FY2027 National Defense Authorization Act as long as it carries the U.S.-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative — Section 1217, the Israel FUTURES Act. Strip it, or vote the bill down. In his Farewell Address, George Washington warned us to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world. This is exactly what he cautioned against. The provision does not authorize a single contract or a joint exercise. It builds a permanent framework fusing our defense research, acquisition, and supply chains with a foreign military — and it is written to be hard to unwind once it becomes law. That is the point of it. We do not need, and did not ask for, our association with Israel’s military signed permanently into U.S. law. No foreign nation should hold that kind of standing power over our own defense industrial base. This reaches further than our arrangements with NATO allies or the Five Eyes, and it hands leverage over American sovereignty to a government we do not control. Full stop. The Senate was right to withhold the votes to advance this bill. Hold that line. If this integration is signed into law over your constituents’ objections, we will remember it at the ballot box. You will lose your seats. Signed, A Voting Constiuent
