I am a New Mexico resident writing to urge you to oppose Project Jupiter, the data center campus proposed for Doña Ana County near Santa Teresa. Air quality. Developers have asked state regulators to approve emissions that could exceed those of New Mexico’s two largest cities combined. That is an unacceptable burden in a state already working toward its climate commitments under the Energy Transition Act. Water. In one of the most arid regions of the country, committing our finite groundwater and public utility capacity to an industrial-scale data operation puts residents’ long-term water security at risk. Energy. A campus designed to consume as much electricity as a major city raises real questions about strain on our resources and the reliability of the developers’ shifting power plans. Process. Residents have filed suit alleging the County Commission approved $165 billion in government-backed bonds on an incomplete application, and community members report being denied a genuine public forum. Decisions of this magnitude deserve full transparency and public scrutiny. I ask that your administration direct the Environment Department to require a full public hearing on the air quality permits and that the state not lend its support to this project as currently proposed.
