Stop Pretending You Just Discovered the Problem With Mass Deportations

To: Sen. Cornyn

From: A verified voter in Dallas, TX

October 9

You claim you "always thought" mass deportations sent the wrong message. If that's true, where were you when it mattered? Your silence wasn't principled restraint — it was a political calculation, and now that the polls have turned, you want credit for a conscience you kept carefully hidden. ProPublica has documented 506 cases where ICE arrested U.S. citizens for deportation. A dozen of them were actually deported — which is flatly illegal. Agents arrested 63 people simply for recording them, which is perfectly legal. Nearly 100 Americans, almost all people of color, were detained after being questioned about their citizenship. These aren't edge cases. This is the policy you refused to criticize until Latino voters started abandoning your party at 69%. I want to know what you are going to do about it — not what you always privately believed. Introduce legislation. Demand hearings. Use your vote. The people being dragged into vans screaming "I'm a U.S. citizen" didn't get to wait for a convenient moment to speak up.
