PLEASE call your State of Ohio Senator and ask him to vote NO on SB 271 Charlie Kirk Memorial Day in Ohio! Please Oppose Senate Bill 271 – Conservative Activist, Charlie Kirk Does Not Merit a State Honor
Dear Governor DeWine,
I urge you to OPPOSE Senate Bill 271, introduced by Senator Al Cutrona, which would designate October 14 as Charlie Kirk Memorial Day in Ohio.
While Mr. Kirk’s death was undeniably tragic, it would be deeply misguided for our state to officially honor him. He was a private citizen, not a public servant, he was not born in or a resident of Ohio and his record does not reflect the values of unity, service, or respect that such recognition should embody.
Mr. Kirk was known for promoting hostility toward those who differ from him, including racist and misogynistic remarks, claiming that prominent Black American women did not have the "brain processing power" to be taken seriously and "stole" white men’s jobs. (Contrary to JD Vance assertion that he did not say that, I HAVE SEEN this video, Kirk DID say this!). In one instance, Kirk even suggested that we have public executions and they should be televised as sponsored events. These statements are antithetical to Ohio’s moral and civic ideals.
We should reserve state honors for those who have truly served humanity — people like Dr. Jane Goodall, though being British, her life’s work reflects compassion, courage, and a commitment to bettering our world.
Please stand with Ohioans who believe our symbols and designations should inspire UNITY, not division.
