Abolish the Electoral College — Support a National Popular Vote Amendment

To: Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff, Rep. Chu

From: A verified voter in Pasadena, CA

June 25

Support a constitutional amendment to abolish the Electoral College and replace it with a national popular vote. A recent Economist/YouGov poll shows 56% of Americans back this change, with only 23% opposed — a 2-to-1 margin. That's not a fringe position. That's a clear democratic mandate. The current system has already handed the presidency to the second-place candidate, most recently in 2016. Every vote should carry equal weight regardless of which state it's cast in. Even a plurality of Republican-leaning voters now agree — 43% support the change versus 40% opposed. This is one of the rare issues where broad, cross-partisan consensus exists. The moment to act on it is now.
