Reduce DHS funding and require leaders of good moral character

To: Rep. Hern, Sen. Mullin, Sen. Lankford

Republicans used to be for small government. Wasn't that the reasoning behind DOGE? Republicans used to be for states rights. The primary states rights traditionally seen as protected by the 10th Amendment are policing and elections, but today we see undertrained and ethically challenged federal agents patrolling state streets while less qualified government officials demand voter's records from states. It's time to DOGE ICE and DHS. PLEASE READ my description WHY: My law enforcement career included an undergraduate internship at FLETC in Georgia training with Customs and Immigration Enforcement shortly before 9/11. The agents I trained with took your papers when entering the country and picked up criminals unlawfully in the country and deported them. Standards were higher for recruits. Border Patrol literally patrolled the border and was required by law to stay there, similar to laws that prevent military from performing law enforcement functions on city streets, as border patrol operates more like military than other federal law enforcement. DHS was created in response to the terrorist attacks of 9/11. I think we can agree that the Americans Trump calls terrorists today are not like al Qaeda. That's why DHS must be returned to something closer to what was in place before 9/11. Your duty to keep our government fiscally responsible demands it. Governor Greg Abbott said ICE needs recalibration. Because DHS was created due to the threat from Osama Bin Laden, DHS should have been scaled back after Obama killed Bin Laden. I served in the Army under George W. Bush, when many executive powers increased. That's okay, as long as those wielding power are of good moral character. If not, absolute power corrupts absolutely, and it's your job to use your Article One powers to stop it. I call on you to reduce DHS funding significantly and institute higher standards for agents, particularly the high moral standards that federal agents used to be required to meet. Please consider implementing high moral standards in all leadership positions so that our public servants are more likely to uphold their oath to The Constitution.
