Reverse Rubio's dishonest sanctions on the ICC
Reverse Sec. of State Marco Rubio's sanctions on the International Criminal Court. On Friday, Rubio sanctioned the court itself and vowed to dismantle it "brick by brick."
The ICC has about 900 staff and has not sought to prosecute a single American. It has issued arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu and Vladimir Putin. Netanyahu cheered the earlier round of US sanctions. Those rogue leaders the court has charged — and any at risk of future accountability — are the only ones who benefit.
The timing says the rest. The sanctions came hours after former ICC judge Navi Pillay won the Nobel Peace Prize. She found Gaza a genocide.
Americans were not asked. Trump and Rubio made this call, and Congress never voted on it. Punishing a court for doing its job puts the United States alongside authoritarian regimes that reject all accountability.
Congress has the power to stop it. I ask you to:
1-Publicly condemn the sanctions.
2-Hold hearings on who ordered them and why.
3-Use Congress's oversight and funding powers to reverse them.
The rule of law cannot depend on who holds power. Congress must act now.
