State leaders must help protect our schools!

To: Rep. Brown, Rep. Stemen, Gov. Armstrong, Sen. Roers

Trump initially requested $12 billion in cuts to public schools, and the House Appropriations Committee is in support. If approved, this budget will slash Title I funds for low-income schools by nearly 30%, eliminate support for English Learners, zero out college access programs, community schools and more. Thankfully, the Senate Appropriations Committee fully rejected Trump’s cuts and is instead proposing $50 million increases to both Title I and IDEA, along with an additional $5 million for rural schools. If Trump and the House get their way, these cuts would be devastating to students and communities – killing after school and summer programs, arts and technology classes, teacher recruitment and training, emergency preparedness, mental health services, and more. The result? Overcrowded classrooms and fewer resources for every child. You must voice your opposition these funding cuts and help pressure our federal representatives to protect our schools.
