I am writing to urge you to call for the immediate removal of Attorney General Pam Bondi following her disastrous testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday. Her conduct and the Justice Department's failures under her leadership demonstrate she is unfit to serve in this position.
The Justice Department released millions of files from Jeffrey Epstein investigations this year with catastrophic failures in protecting victims. As Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal revealed during the hearing, the department failed to properly redact victims' names as required by law. In some cases, nude images of survivors were released, compromising identities that had been protected for decades. When Jayapal asked survivors present in the room to stand if they had not been able to meet with the Justice Department, all of them rose. Marina Lacerda, an Epstein survivor who attended the hearing, stated that Bondi has been unwilling to help survivors and has totally ignored their calls and emails.
Rather than apologizing to these victims, Bondi called the questioning "theatrics" and refused to engage respectfully with a sitting member of Congress. She called one Democrat a "washed-up loser" during the hearing. This behavior is beneath the dignity required of the nation's chief law enforcement officer.
Bipartisan lawmakers also criticized the Justice Department for improperly redacting names of people who are not protected under law. Republican Thomas Massie, who has reviewed unredacted files, called this issue "bigger than Watergate" and pressed Bondi on accountability for these failures. She provided no satisfactory answers.
The Attorney General must be someone who prioritizes victims, respects Congress, and ensures the Justice Department operates with integrity and transparency. Pam Bondi has demonstrated she cannot meet these basic standards. I urge you to publicly call for her resignation or removal and to support a full investigation into the Justice Department's handling of the Epstein files.
