I am writing to urge you to oppose the military operations in Iran that President Trump announced on Truth Social. This decision to engage in major combat operations represents a dangerous escalation that will cost American lives and resources while our communities face urgent needs at home.
The President acknowledged that American casualties are expected in this campaign, describing potential losses as part of a "noble mission." However, I believe we should not be sending our service members into another Middle Eastern conflict when we have critical domestic challenges that demand our attention and investment. The stated objectives of destroying Iran's missiles, navy, and preventing nuclear weapons development will require sustained military engagement with unpredictable consequences.
History shows that military interventions in the Middle East rarely achieve their stated goals and often lead to prolonged conflicts. The President referenced decades of U.S.-Iran tensions dating back to 1979, yet military action has not resolved these issues. Instead of launching bombing campaigns and threatening "certain death" to Iranian forces, we should pursue diplomatic solutions that protect American interests without the enormous human and financial costs of war.
Our country faces pressing domestic priorities that require the resources being directed toward military operations. Americans need investment in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic security. Every dollar spent on missiles and military campaigns in Iran is a dollar not spent addressing the challenges facing your constituents.
I urge you to publicly oppose these military operations and use your position to advocate for diplomatic engagement rather than military escalation. Please vote against any authorization for continued military action in Iran and support efforts to redirect our national focus toward the domestic issues that directly impact American families. Our service members should not be put in harm's way when diplomatic alternatives exist and our communities need support at home.
