I am writing to express my deep concern and outrage over any consideration of withdrawing from the International Centre for the Prosecution of the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine (ICPA). Such a decision would not only undermine America's leadership on the global stage but would send a dangerous signal that the United States is willing to tolerate war crimes and violations of international law.
The United States has always stood for justice, the rule of law, and the defense of democracy against aggression. Our support for Ukraine in the face of Vladimir Putin’s brutal, unprovoked war is not just about Ukraine’s survival—it is about upholding the fundamental principles of sovereignty and human rights that underpin global stability. To withdraw from the ICPA is to side with a war criminal over the victims of his aggression. This is not a partisan issue; it is a matter of national integrity and moral clarity.
It is deeply troubling that former President Donald Trump appears intent on sabotaging our commitment to accountability and international justice. His words and actions increasingly align with the interests of a known global aggressor, rather than with the American people and our allies. This cannot stand. It is unacceptable for any U.S. leader to betray the principles of justice and international law that generations of Americans have fought to uphold.
Withdrawing from the ICPA would embolden Putin, weaken NATO, and diminish U.S. credibility at a time when our leadership is needed most. We cannot afford to retreat from our commitments. The world is watching. Our allies are watching. And history will remember whether we stood for what is right or chose to capitulate to tyranny.
I urge you, as my elected representative, to speak out forcefully against any efforts to withdraw from the ICPA and to take all necessary action to ensure the United States remains committed to holding war criminals accountable. This is not a political issue. This is an American issue. I ask for your immediate response on this urgent matter.
Thank you for your time and your service to our country.
