An Open Letter

To: Rep. Snyder, Sen. Bumstead, Gov. Whitmer

From: A constituent in Muskegon, MI

January 14

Close ICE detention centers. There are numerous reports of inadequate and inhumane condition within multiple ICE detention centers throughout the country. These centers are being used to detain innocent members of our communities in deplorable conditions and rob them of due process and basic human rights. State governments and Congress must act immediately to assert oversight powers to inspect and demand proper treatment of the human beings ICE has illegally captured and held in what amounts to concentration camps. Pass legislation on US, state and local levels allowing local/state government agencies to inspect all detention centers and immediately demand the closure and release of detainees of any facility that doesn’t uphold the highest standards of care for human rights. ICE Has overstepped its bounds. It’s time to act to limit their control in every way possible. If you can’t abolish ice, you can pass local, state and federal laws requiring them to adhere to standards. For profit detention centers holding average, law abiding, hard working members of our communities in inhumane conditions is the stuff of dystopian nightmares. It must end now!
