I am writing as your constituent and a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer who served in Kyrgyzstan from 2008 to 2010. I am deeply concerned about the recent decision to suspend the placement of new Peace Corps Volunteers in Kyrgyzstan, following directives from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) . During my service, I witnessed firsthand the profound impact that Peace Corps Volunteers have on local communities through English education, youth development, and cultural exchange. These programs not only foster mutual understanding but also advance U.S. foreign policy objectives by building goodwill and promoting democratic values. Kyrgyzstan remains a strategically important nation in Central Asia. The cessation of new volunteer placements undermines decades of progress and diminishes our country’s presence and influence in the region. Moreover, it sends a disheartening message to both current and prospective volunteers who are committed to service and global engagement. I urge you to: 1. Advocate for the restoration of Peace Corps operations in Kyrgyzstan. 2. Oppose any further budgetary or staffing cuts that hinder the agency’s mission. 3. Support legislative measures that reinforce the importance of the Peace Corps in promoting international development and diplomacy. The Peace Corps has long enjoyed bipartisan support and represents a modest investment with significant returns in global goodwill and domestic benefits. I respectfully ask for your leadership in ensuring that this invaluable program continues to thrive. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
