Stand Up for Federal Employees or Be Held Accountable at the Ballot Box
To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt
From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO
July 8
I am writing to ask you a simple question. Why are you not standing up for federal employees and the unions that represent them? Every day, I watch as Russell Vought and this administration take action after action that weakens our federal agencies, undermines the civil service, attacks collective bargaining, and drives experienced public servants out of government. These are not isolated decisions. They reflect a broader effort to dismantle institutions that millions of Americans rely on every day. Federal employees are not political pawns. They are veterans, scientists, inspectors, Social Security employees, nurses, law enforcement officers, researchers, and countless other dedicated public servants who keep this country functioning. They administer programs that Americans depend on, protect public health and safety, care for our veterans, process Social Security benefits, support our farmers, and ensure that our government serves the public with professionalism and integrity. Instead of supporting these public servants, this administration continues to attack them. It has sought to weaken unions, reduce due process protections, reorganize agencies in ways that force experienced employees to resign, and erode the merit based civil service that has protected the American people for generations. Where is your voice? Where is your leadership? Why have you not publicly condemned these actions? Why are you allowing Russell Vought to continue dismantling the institutions that Congress created and funded? Why are you remaining silent while career civil servants and their unions are subjected to constant attacks? Congress is a coequal branch of government. It is your constitutional responsibility to conduct oversight, defend the laws you have enacted, and ensure that no administration exceeds its authority. Remaining silent while career civil servants and their unions are systematically weakened is a failure to fulfill that responsibility. This is about more than federal employees. It is about preserving a professional, independent government that serves the American people instead of political interests. Every agency that is weakened means fewer services, longer delays, less accountability, and greater hardship for the citizens who depend on those programs. I need you to stand up. I need you to speak out. I need you to publicly condemn these attacks on federal employees and their unions. I need you to defend the institutions that make our government function and protect the people you were elected to serve. Most importantly, I need you to help turn this around before irreparable damage is done to the federal workforce and the agencies that millions of Americans rely upon every day. If you continue to remain silent while federal employees and their unions are under attack, you should not expect the support of the very people you were elected to represent. Federal employees, their families, retirees, and those who value an effective, professional government are paying attention. Leadership requires action, not silence, and your response to this moment will be remembered when voters cast their ballots. Please tell me what specific actions you are taking to protect federal employees, defend collective bargaining rights, preserve the merit based civil service, and hold this administration accountable. Your constituents deserve more than silence. We deserve leadership.
