Dear [Representative/Senator Name],
I am writing as a constituent who believes deeply in the dignity and worth of every human being. Recent reports about conditions in ICE detention centers — overcrowding, inadequate medical care, and prolonged confinement — are profoundly troubling. Regardless of one’s political stance on immigration, our response to vulnerable people seeking safety must reflect the values of compassion, justice, and humanity that define our nation at its best.
Detention should never mean dehumanization. Many of those held in these centers are parents, children, and survivors of trauma — individuals seeking the same safety and opportunity that have always been the promise of America. Yet too often, they experience neglect, fear, and indignity in our care.
I respectfully urge you to:
Increase oversight and transparency within ICE detention facilities, ensuring accountability for conditions and treatment.
Expand alternatives to detention, such as community-based case management programs that are both humane and cost-effective.
Ensure access to medical and mental health care, particularly for children, pregnant individuals, and trauma survivors.
Support funding for humanitarian, rather than punitive, immigration measures that prioritize safety, dignity, and family unity.
Humanistic psychology teaches that people thrive when treated with empathy and respect. This principle applies not only in therapy rooms, but in every system that touches human lives. Our policies must honor that truth.
Please use your voice and your vote to advocate for immigration policies that recognize each person’s inherent worth — not as a statistic or legal category, but as a human being deserving of care.
Thank you for your time, service, and attention to this urgent moral issue.
