It seems a no-brainer. Should America’s lawmakers stand behind the police who protected them with their bodies and their lives on January 6, 2021? Or should they stand on the side of the most brazen act of presidential corruption in American history? Should they support the law and order of the country they took an oath to defend? Or should that oath take a backseat to political self-interest, no matter the cost to the country? Or their souls? Trump has said he’s establishing a reparations fund for the crowd he sicced on the Capitol. A crowd who defaced and defiled the physical and spiritual symbol of our democracy. A crowd who brutalized the police, while stalking the targets of their rage to do who-knows-what (although ‘Hang Mike Pence’ seems a good preview). And the police protected y’all. Did their duty. Bravely. Literally saved the day. And as a result they have been vilified. Insulted. Discounted. Their actions diminished. They’ve received death threats for years. But they still fight for what they, and we the people, know to be right. Yesterday Metropolitan PD officer Daniel Hodges and former US Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn sued the president, the acting AG, and the Treasury Sec to block Trump’s indefensible fund. Will you stand with them? Will you protect our democracy as they did? As they literally protected you? Even when it meant perhaps losing their lives to do so? Shut Trump’s treasonous scheme down. Congress must reassert the power of the purse and stop this brazen looting of taxpayer funds in the name of justice. Justice he is trying to pervert. And if he succeeds, partisan corruption will become the permanent operating system of our government. That will be his legacy. And yours if you help him. If Congress doesn’t take a stand on such a clearcut moral issue, this political analysis will become the sole GOP platform going forward, authored by Donald Trump… “I want absolute loyalty. I want to trade stocks, make hundreds of millions of dollars. I want my 1776 fund to make sure J Sixers, you know, get the money that they’re owed. I want immunity for me and my family from an audit forevermore…. I want to get rich, and I don’t care that you are poorer.” Show us you won’t let that happen.
