Protect LGBTQ+ rights, oppose discriminatory provisions in bills

To: Rep. Castor, Sen. Scott, Sen. Rubio

From: A verified voter in Tampa, FL

November 18

As your constituent, I urge you to firmly oppose any legislation that threatens to undermine civil rights and protections for the LGBTQ+ community. It is deeply concerning that certain members of Congress are attempting to embed harmful anti-LGBTQ+ provisions in must-pass bills like the upcoming appropriations bills and the National Defense Authorization Act. These proposed measures risk limiting access to essential healthcare, enabling discrimination, restricting freedom of expression, and eroding hard-won rights for LGBTQ+ individuals. Such measures are not only divisive and discriminatory but also go against the fundamental principles of equality and justice enshrined in our nation's values. No one should face discrimination or have their rights curtailed based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. We must work to build a society that celebrates diversity, fosters inclusion, and upholds the dignity and humanity of all people. I implore you to stand firm in your commitment to protecting the rights of the LGBTQ+ community and to reject any attempts to enshrine discrimination and intolerance into law. Our nation's progress towards greater equality and acceptance should not be undermined by regressive policies that only serve to marginalize and harm vulnerable communities. Please use your voice and your influence to advocate for inclusivity, justice, and the uncompromising protection of civil rights for all.
